About Banqueting House

Banqueting House is currently undergoing essential conservation and maintenance work, with a planned reopening in Autumn 2025. The closure period is devoted to enhancing its historical features, whilst preserving its original grandeur, to ensure it continues to offer an unparalleled event experience. During this period, other palaces in London are available for hire to accommodate events.

Nestled in the prestigious Whitehall area of London, Banqueting House stands as a monument of grand architectural and historical significance since its inception in 1622. Designed by the revolutionary architect Inigo Jones, the Banqueting House is one of the first examples of the grandeur of Neoclassical architecture in England, commissioned by King James I. The main feature of the Banqueting House is Sir Peter Paul Rubens’ gloriously painted ceiling, commissioned by Charles I as a testament to his father’s reign, which continues to captivate visitors with its artistic and historical majesty.

This venue has historically been the stage for many significant events in British royal and political history, including masques, balls, and even the execution of Charles I. Its rich tapestry of history not only provides a stunning backdrop but also a profound depth to any event hosted here. Today, the Banqueting House offers a variety of settings for events ranging from weddings to corporate conferences, known for its opulent interiors and majestic scale.
