Lets face it: most couples do not get a lot of time to dance, and when they do it is probably in the bathroom while listening to one of their favourite songs or at a club with the favoured DJ. However, if you are having a traditional wedding, a first dance as a couple is quite important. So how should you prepare and how should you decide on a song? Read our guide for some helpful tips.
Some couples decide to go all out and take dancing lessons together; this is a great way to bond with one another and relieve some stress in the months leading up to the wedding. Other couples choose to choreograph a dance themselves. You don't have to be light on your feet to do this too, simply take inspiration from some dance videos and put it all together.
If you are doing a traditional dance we can recommend what some of the most popular songs are to dance to. Otherwise, songs should not be too long, too fast or two slow. They should also be all ages appropriate, as you will have family in attendance. The goal is to entertain your guests; not bore them with a performance that is too long or slow. It is possible to create a personalised song, if you are think of two or three different songs we can professionally mix the songs and have them mastered in our studio.
Regardless of the style that you have chosen for your first dance, it can end with the groom dipping his bride, both for dramatic effect and for a photo opportunity. If you choose to do this, make sure your photographer knows ahead of time so they are there to capture the end of the dance with the right angle to ensure a perfect photo. The DJ will then usually cue the next song and invite the rest of your guest to join in!
